Teleferico de Mukumbari

Merida, Venezuela

This article is about the "Teleferico Mukumbari" in Merida, Venezuela. Here they talk few things about this new cableway that was inaugurated in Merida last May, they say that more than 70 thousand people has visited the cableway in 4 months (because the article was written in September 2016).
The article explain that it was closed for more than 8 years because the cableway was being remodeling, the ones in charge of the tourism in Venezuela were improving the facilities, the infrastructure, the stations, the restaurants, the cabins, and more.
And it also explains why this is one of the most visited touristic places. First because the cableway visit 5 stations (Barinitas, La Montaña, La Aguada, Loma Redonda and Pico Espejo) in which you can appreciate the diversity in the vegetation and in the landscape; one of the more characteristic plant is the one called Frailejon, in the way to the top the visitors can appreciate 64 types of Frailejones.
The first station Barinitas is 1,555m over the sea, and the last station Pico Espejo is 4,765m over the sea. While going from the 4th to the 5th station the people can see and take pictures of the Pico Bolivar, the highest point of the highest mountain in Venezuela. Pico Espejo, the last station is near the Pico Bolivar, it is why so many people go to the Pico Espejo and then they take a walk to the Pico Bolivar where there is a bust of Simon Bolivar.
Sometimes, depending on the time of the year the people that visits there Loma Redonda or Pico Espejo they can see snow.

I imagine that more than 70 thousand people has visited the cableway in Merida because a lot of people were waiting for it for more than 8 years. When it was inaugurated everybody was excited because they could visit again this touristic place, which is one of the best touristic places in the country along with the Salto Angel and the beautiful beaches that we have.

I visited the cableway on vacations and it was espectacular, I have never been there and I really liked it, it was so modern and clean. They had in every station a place where to buy food, which is very important because as no everyone is accustomed to the high places the people need to eat or at least to drink something like coffee or chocolate so they don't faint.

And one of the things that I loved was the view of the mountains while going up in the cableway because you could see from one side to the city of Merida and from the other side the whole view of the mountain, the Frailejones, the roads; when going to Loma Redonda I could see the huge lakes in between the mountains, and then going to Pico Espejo I could see the statue of Miranda in one of the highest point of one mountain and I could see all the Pico Bolivar and the frozen rivers. It was just beautiful and a good experience.
